Intervention and Alternative Provision.

Intervention, support and course provision.

EDGE-ucation Outdoors has many years experience of supporting schools with students who are starting to show challenging behaviours.

These Low to Medium Level Intervention Programmes are aimed at students who might be displaying early signs of becoming disengaged, often due to changes in home or life circumstances; this is when early intervention can be most effective. Appropriate behaviours are consistently praised and inappropriate ones are addressed leading to the success of the intervention programmes.

Students who have attended and completed these courses successfully and consistently avoid escalation to fixed and long term exclusions.

All of our activity days can begin and end within a normal school day and are always within one hour of the school.

An important aspect of intervention courses is post course evaluations and plans for the next day. This can take the form of a full session report, and group discussions.

Alternative Provision

For some students using a course for regular weekly contact would be appropriate as Alternative Educational Provision. This might involve just using EDGE-ucation Outdoors as part of their weekly time table or as part of other provision within a student action plan, EHCP.

We are fortunate at EDGE-ucation Outdoors that as well as having staff with high level NGB qualifications, most are qualified and experienced teachers who have extensive experience working with SEN students and those that aren't engaging in education.

The course director has over many years used Outdoor Education and linked it directly to aspects of the curriculum. With experience and vision linking the curriculum in a practical way has been a great motivator, bringing relevance and understanding to what are normally classroom based subjects.

Monitoring and course planning along with full session reports would be an ongoing process.
